Why the Daniel Plan?

Why the Daniel Plan?

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:3)

Remember…The Daniel Plan is about getting healthy…in our minds, bodies, and spirit…weight loss is a side bonus of being healthy.

Ten years ago I read a great book that stated:  It’s not about you!

I must admit, that while I thought I was fully ready to embrace a committed relationship with God at that time, it took me another full year before I could continue reading the rest of the book after that paragraph.  The point is that it is about God’s plan for us. The good news is that if we follow God’s plan, the results are then up to Him…because it is not about YOU!...so…we are off the hook for the results.

The Greatest Commandment

“Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Can any of us on our own grow even one hair on our heads?  No! But all things are possible through God, if we put our trust in Him.

Will the Daniel Plan work for Me?

Ingredients to Avoid

Sugar is more addictive than cocaine!

I’ve been stuck in a vicious cycle of defeat for long enough; it’s time to follow God’s directions into the Promised Land of freedom from food addiction.

You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.
Deuteronomy 2:3

I will not allow my cravings to master me; instead, I will master them and bring them to Jesus.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5

Though battling cravings is hard, it is a chance to see Jesus Christ’s power working in me through my weaknesses.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Ingredients to Avoid

  1. Sugars - sucrose, fructose, maltodextrin, and high fructose corn syrup. Examples include almost all processed foods and fruit juices, sodas, jams, jellies, candy and much more. Sugar should be the occasional treat.
  2. The bad fats – Trans fat and processed/refined vegetable oils. These fats increase your risk of bad cholesterol, heart attack, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Read the label and avoid this ingredient.
  3. Chemicals- Food additives can cause havoc. The most common additives to avoid are MSG, artificial sweeteners, nitrates, colors and dyes, and phosphoric acid among others.

Why are Sweets Important?

Why are Sweets Important?

God has provided well for us and it includes sweets.  Once you know you can have good healthy sweets, and feel secure in that, it shrinks temptation to its true size.

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (John 4:4 NIV)
